The Caring for the Caregivers Campaign is a fundraising effort to help equip and support church leaders on the front lines of diverse care needs. Your support helps these caregivers gain access to counseling, teaching, training, consulting, and other vital resources to better care for others and themselves.
A $75,000 CMHP Expansion Effort
The local church is often the first place people turn when experiencing mental health struggles. However, many are quietly suffering in the pews of our churches without the necessary guidance and support. The Church Mental Health Partnership (CMHP) launched the Caring for the Caregivers Campaign to expand our reach and help a growing number of over-burdened and under-equipped church leaders care for this critical discipleship issue.
Led by Rev. Dr. Bryan Loney, a pastor and church insider with doctoral training in clinical psychology, the CMHP empowers ministry leaders, lay care teams, and congregations to address mental health suffering with biblically grounded, clinically informed, and compassionate care.
Since the CMHP launched in January 2025, we have seen remarkable momentum. Pastors, church staff, and lay leaders are reaching out and engaging a wide array of CMHP services. In turn, congregations are learning to speak about mental health issues in a way that fosters genuine honesty and healing.
To meet the growing need, develop important services, and offer care subsidies for churches with limited resources, we need to raise $75,000 by the end of the year.
The Burden
Research suggests that 1 in 5 adults (and a comparable percentage of youth) will cross the threshold for impairing levels of mental health concerns this year. This is an overwhelming burden, particularly in light of:
The Care Strain: Pastors and ministry leaders often feel stuck and overwhelmed by the volume and complexity of care needs in their congregations. Help is needed to build sustainable and effective systems of church care.
The Training Gap: Pastors and church staff have typically received very little training in the area of mental health concerns. For example, current seminary training does not equip pastors to know how to spot and respond to many critical care concerns.
The Leader Isolation: Church leaders are in need of their own coaching and counseling support given high levels of discouragement, stress, loneliness, and burnout risk. Many pastors report heavy emotional strain and have thought about leaving the ministry.
The Support
Through the generous support of like-minded partners, we are able to develop vital resources to help church leaders walk alongside the hurting and care for themselves (click here for example CMHP services). Your support of the Caring for the Caregivers Campaign could help bring new resources to church leaders over the coming months such as:
Counseling Subsidies and Direct Leader Care: Access and affordability are two of the greatest obstacles to caring for the caregivers in our churches. Removing financial barriers so church leaders can access quality consulting and counseling resources is critical. For example, counseling scholarships are regularly provided to church leaders based on the support that is available.
The Church Mental Health Podcast (Starting this Fall): In partnership with Harbor Christian Counseling, this podcast will bring expert insights, pastoral wisdom, and practical conversations directly to the widest possible audience. Your support could help with content creation, audio production, and distribution to ensure accessible mental health guidance reaches church leaders wherever they are.
New Online and Written Materials: There is a great need for quality resources bridging faith and mental health concerns. To enhance the growth and reach of the CMHP, we are investing in the development of materials like the following:
Seminars and leadership training workshops
Referral and crisis readiness documents
A CMHP book project targeting a wide audience
The Impact
The table above provides examples of how different dollar amounts could potentially impact caregivers. Many individuals and churches have helped to get the CMHP started, and we are asking for your help with the current expansion effort. Larger gifts are currently needed, and we are asking churches to consider a recurring $5,000 gift for the next 2-3 years. However, gifts of any amount will be a great help in reaching our $75,000 goal and bringing care to church leaders in need.
*Dollar amounts represent approximate costs to deliver these key ministry initiatives. All contributions are general, unrestricted gifts deployed dynamically where the need is greatest to support the CMHP’s overall mission and growth.
